After we watched the video we worked out that he's popping the lock by pulling hard and down. We can find no reason why this should work. The lock must be defective. We did it over and over again and each subsequent time it was easier to open. The good thing is, like Merlin, we no longer have to use the magnetic key. At least now we are on par with the dog.
Back to square one.

I don't know what to say. First of all, what a smart dog! It's a little freaky how smart he is. Secondly, Tom thinks that Merlin's getting back at you for blaming him during the "poop in the hall" incident. I agree.

oh my. i'm amazed and hystercial! i can't believe he went to so much trouble and for so long! and that he likes bread.... i'm soooo glad that Zeke doesn't get into the trash!
Merlin is probably getting back at us for the 2 kids that have now put him in last place.. well, last place before the cats.

kelly! that's hysterical...but it really seemed like for a while he tried so hard to resist the temptation. he doesn't WANT to get into the trash...but you kinda left him no choice ;-)
See Lisa, you are willing to give him the benefit of the doubt after seven years of not living with him. While you think he's resisting, I think he's just lazy. :)
