At about 4:30 a.m. we were awoken by a sweet, little, familiar voice. I heard the voice; I heard the door open. I continued to hear the voice repeat the same words. Finally, I was coherent enough to understand, "Mommy, I have to go to the potty." "Oh, okay sweetie," I said. Mark asked if she needed help; she declined as she headed to the bathroom.
She shuffled around without aide of a light. Several seconds later, I heard, "Mommy..." followed by a mix of inaudible words and crying. I jumped from the bed and scooped her into my arms trying to calm her before she reached hysterics that would undoubtedly wake Kessler. "What's wrong?" I asked as I carried her back to the potty. "I bumped my forehead." "You bumped your forehead?" I pondered. My first thought--did she fall asleep then subsequently fall off the potty?? Makena responded, "I couldn't see my pee-pee." Based on her explanation and hand gestures I realized that in an effort to get closer to the potty to see her pee-pee she hit her head on the toilet seat! Thank goodness for the toilet seat otherwise she might've gotten a bit more than she was looking for!
I suppose I should mention here that in an effort to get Makena potty trained Mark taught her to say "bye-bye poopies/pee-pees" just before she flushes. It seems that you cannot say bye to something you can't see!
While that is the gist of the story, the rest of our early morning rendezvous is still worth mentioning. After bidding farewell to her excrement and washing our hands we headed back to her room. On the way there she said, "I love daddy." I said, "I know! He's a great daddy, isn't he?" She said, "Yes he is...... and Grandpa's a great grandpa too." I agreed and tucked her into bed.

How funny!! I remember waving bye bye to my poop when I was little, too! Will is (sort of) starting to potty train. He likes to sit on the potty but hasn't really grasped the concept yet. So far, he only likes to sit on the potty and wipe his little buttcheek with too much TP!
I think that's a pretty clever tactic, actually! I wonder if it works on boys?
My brother was telling me about how he got his son to potty train. He showed him a box of leftover fireworks and told him that if he went "poopy in the potty" they'd set one off. The kid crapped four times that night! This was December, by the way, so the fireworks did not go unnoticed by the neighbors. Needless to say, whenever they're out there setting off fireworks the neighbors stop by to congratulate my nephew for pooping! Poor kid---he'd better have a port-a-potty nearby for every 4th of July celebration that he attends for the rest of his life!
hahaha...how sweet!
